On Harmonica & Vocals.... The Mouth Organ Player In The Band
Relative newcomer to the band scene, (playing at least). Hailing From Billingham (Alabama that is...I dont think so ! ! ) John is a lifelong blues / jazz / soul / reggae fan. Former organiser of the Hartlepool Jazz Club, and avid gig goer; John became a blues harp convert at age 14, after seeing Walter Horton and Sonny Terry on the same bill at Darlington Civic in 1970 (those were the days!). And also because mouth organs are shiny and cheap! Not to mention the pathetic hope that whipping out his trusty organ in public would make him attractive to girls.......it didn't !
'Messed around' on harp for twenty or so years, before having a word with himself and joining a band around year 2000. Mr Hand makes up for his lack of musical training by enthusiasm and dedication, always striving for that elusive Chicago sound, one day he knows he will get it. He was invited into the Sugar B's by Dave and Mick where he met Tony Kramer, (Robbo was yet to join the almost famous Band )
If John Looks confused on stage its 'cos he is.
Previous Bands Include:The Abnormal Events, Mojo Hand, he also plays in the Excellos.
Favourite Harp Players: Big Walter, Little Stevie, both Sonny Boys, Paul Lamb, Sonny Terry.
